Eternal Learning & Kind Art Collective in full production

We are currently working on a new large-scale ceramic tile mural, Eternal Learning, for the College of Education at CSUSB. None of this could happen without the generous support and belief in our work from Jim & Judy Rodriguez Watson. We are SO grateful for the opportunity to do this truly meaningful work. Their sponsorship of multiple public art projects has provided opportunities that have changed the lives of so many emerging artists and designers from California State University San Bernardino.

Eternal Learning is our current project that will culminate in 850 square feet of ceramic tile for the College of Education at CSUSB. This project was designed and created by students and alumni. On track for 2023 completion, Eternal learning is now in full production. We are about halfway through making these ceramics tiles and in deep work flow. Such thrilling work!

Eternal learning depicts humans at work, study, and play amongst larger-than-life books. Scenes of holistic learning activities such as shared-reading, drumming, conducting science experiments, playing basketball, and star-gazing, are portrayed with a community of silhouette figures. Flipping the scale between human and book, this mural aspires to promote the importance of literacy and lifelong learning. The metaphor of the open book suggests how it can open minds and pollinate thinking, as letters float throughout the work. A wall with the title, Eternal Learning is translated into multiple languages, suggesting the universality of literacy.  The mural is meant to inspire learning, celebrate educational achievements, and continually self-reflect on our eternally-learning selves.

As a community outreach aspect of the Eternal Learning Mural, CSUSB’s Kind Art Collective is publishing the Kind Art Journal. A bi-lingual art journal that will be distributed to kids in need in the local community. Under the creative direction of both undergraduate and graduate students, this is a dynamic collaboration of talents that includes illustration, graphic design, studio art, and art education. Keep an eye on our launch of this publication in the coming months.

We will be posting fun images and videos of our summer production. Watch us as our work unfolds and be in touch to ask us anything. We would love to hear from you!
